Back in the depths of the pandemic, I went down to a section of southeast Los Angeles where a number of non-profits have set up shop in the midst of an otherwise industrial area. There I shot the volunteers at GrowGood urban farm, learning to compost, weed, plant and harvest for the benefit of providing fresh healthy food for the neighboring Salvation Army shelter and recovery center. Getting in touch with where our food comes from and learning about the practices that make our food nourishing and delicious are part of why I’m interested in photographing this segment of the human experience.
